Dynamic Stability control (DSC) explained
You
only halfway switch off the complicated electronic assistant of the
RX-8 by pressing on the DSC on/off button. And you can toggle between
DSC on and off while driving. With the stability control off, the effect
is a more sensitive throttle response but a slightly more over steer
car. It is still controllable and make it a much faster and yet rumoured
to be more economical car. However, there is more.
To switch off all the electronic assisted functions. You pressed
and hold on the DSC off button for more than 7 seconds until the slippery
warning light appears on the tachometer (as shown
on the left). Please do it when you are on the safe road, for example,
on the race track. Once you have totally switched off DSC, you have
to re-ignite the engine to reset all the functions. To see the difference
in RX-8's performance. The video from the Best Motoring Magazine
demonstrate this.
The runs are as follows (on a wet road at speed 110km/h 25 m radius
left):
1. Normal RX-8 with DSC ON
2. Normal RX-8 with DSC OFF
3. Normal RX-8 with DSC TOTALLY OFF
4. MazdaSpeed RX-8 A Spec with DSC TOTALLY OFF
