The gusty wind remained as strong despite our sincere pray. I apologised to Phil and Susan later that day of my lack of interest in the scenery as I prepared to work hard. I did not carry a camera either. So sorry about lack of pictures on this webpage. The lady in the hotel gave me some local knowledge. The Coorong National Park has sand dunes that would shield off some of the westerly wind. So the first 100 km would not be that bad. I met Simon and Brian near Greg's car outside the Meningie pub (No Greg was busy fixing bikes). We checked our tire pressure and quickly rushed off. We worked together and pedalled hard to the first morning tea at the Salt Creek Primary School. Wonderful cakes and warm drinks awaited us and we were given some sport drinks to go, too. It was really nice of them. We met Andrew Rubin again and the same old group of 7 riders worked together again. We knew our rolling pace line was smoother today as we did not hear Andrew yelling as much. What brothers me the most was my left shoulder. The muscle clamped like hell and it was not easy. I tried many types of stretches but they did not work. There was no town between Salt Creek and Kingston so Phil's set up a road side park to our morning tea station. The wind picked up as we left the Coorong National Park to Kingston but it was only 25km away. A quick lunch in MACS cafe on the Main street of Kingston. It was coldest day of the trip and the full kit was still on. After nearly 7 hours of riding, we reached Robe. I may not like the ride today because of the wind and lack of scenery but I saved my leg for a surge to Melaleuca Hotel. The reward after a long hard day was a massage, nice motel (a lounge room, my own room and a queen size bed) and Oyster Kilpatrick for dinner. Marilyn taught me to stretch the shoulder by pulling down and away. Puhh! This looks like easy to do on the bike! |
